More Than Three Decades of Academic Tradition
Established in 1992, the Faculty of Medicine initially launched its Romanian-language Medicine programme. Over time, it expanded its academic portfolio to include programmes taught in English and French, attracting students from more than 30 countries worldwide. Today, the Faculty of Medicine represents the University’s flagship academic structure, encompassing three active departments and an accredited doctoral school in the fields of Medicine and Biology. Its academic staff combine extensive clinical expertise with active engagement in scientific research.
Medical Education in Arad: A Practice-Oriented Approach
Students undertake clinical placements in partner hospitals across Arad and the surrounding region, working alongside experienced physicians who actively involve them in daily clinical practice. To support postgraduate career development, the Faculty also offers dedicated preparation courses for residency examinations.
A Degree Recognised Throughout the European Union
The medical degree awarded by UVVG is automatically recognised in all EU Member States in accordance with Directive 2005/36/EC on the recognition of professional qualifications. Graduates of the Faculty currently practise medicine in numerous European countries.

At the UVVG Faculty of Medicine, professors know you by name. Small groups mean real access to teaching staff, personalized answers, and continuous guidance throughout your studies — the opposite of the anonymity found in large universities. Founded in 1992, the faculty has grown organically around a single principle: that good medicine is learned alongside people, not in overcrowded amphitheaters. From the first General Medicine program in Romanian, the offering has expanded with programs in English and French, attracting students from over 30 countries. Today, the Faculty of Medicine is the backbone of UVVG — with three active departments, an accredited doctoral school in Medicine and Biology, and a teaching staff that combines clinical practice with high-performance research.

Mission, Vision, and Values

The Faculty of Medicine integrates the modern concept of medicine without borders into UVVG’s general strategy for European integration. Our mission is to train highly qualified medical personnel — doctors, biologists, and physiotherapists — successfully integrable into the national and international labor market.

The educational process is student-centered: curricula are built based on the competencies required by employers, practical internships are essential in each year of study, and the teaching staff consists of active practitioners in the medical system, not exclusively academic researchers. The academic body combines clinical expertise with fundamental and applied biomedical research. Students are involved in research projects, scientific communication sessions, and international collaborations from their first master’s years, and doctoral students benefit from the infrastructure of the IOSUD doctoral school.

The values we convey: responsibility towards the patient, evidence-based critical thinking, professional ethics, interdisciplinary collaboration, and respect for cultural diversity — essential in a faculty with students from over 30 countries. The long-term vision is to consolidate the position of the UVVG Faculty of Medicine as a center of excellence in Western European medical education, recognized for the quality of its graduates, research activity, and international clinical partnerships.
