General Overview

The “Tudor Arghezi” University Library is an integrated system consisting of the central unit and 14 specialized units — faculty libraries, departmental libraries, study and research centers, and the libraries of the University’s branches. It provides the documentary foundation necessary for the academic community through free access to a wide variety of informational resources.

The collection grows by an average of 3,000 volumes per year through acquisitions of new works, interlibrary exchange, and donations, with an average of 800 new titles annually. The Library operates under the Organizational and Functional Regulations approved by the University Senate, which defines the mission, structure, services offered, and user rights.

 

The “Tudor Arghezi” Library is a private law university library, a specific structure without legal personality, subordinated to the Senate, which ensures funding and approves the management’s action projects.

Central Unit

Reference room with open shelf access, information and documentation service through the TINREAD integrated system (online catalog consultation), MULTIMEDIA with free access to databases, permanent exhibitions featuring the Library’s heritage collection and Arghezi manuscripts published in the volume “The Years of Silence.”

Book processing service (reception, inventory, electronic cataloging), reading rooms with over 50 seats and bachelor’s and master’s theses — latest graduating class. The archive-repository for periodicals and reference works older than 5 years is located at 87 Revoluției Blvd. Collection of 392 periodical titles (2011–2016).

Specialized Libraries

Collection of over 5,000 books: treatises for training specialists in life sciences, general and molecular biology, international collection on evolutionism, atlases, dictionaries, manuscripts, specialized periodical collections, and personal documents donated by the family (Prof. Univ. Dr. Dorina Ardelean and Prof. Univ. Dr. Coralia Adina Cotoraci – UVVG Rector).

85 Revoluției Blvd.

A 550 sqm space dedicated exclusively to books and individual study, inaugurated in the 2023–2024 academic year. It contains the entire collection of courses, atlases, treatises, dictionaries, and encyclopedias for medical, legal, economic, and life sciences fields, with open shelf access.

Over 12,000 titles in print format, specialized databases, digital books, online-accessible journals, and courses by faculty members published in Romanian, English, and French (print and on the cursuri.uvvg.ro platform).

Facilities: desktop computers, high-speed wi-fi service, 150+ study seats. Access is free with an I.S.I.C. card. Exhibition and sale of “Vasile Goldiș” University Press publications.

Specialized collection for: applied modern languages, history, political science, international relations and European studies, public administration, communication and public relations, psychology, primary and preschool education pedagogy, social work, and DPPD. Reading room with 32 seats, home loan service.

Designed for F.E.D.E. students and students in specific disciplines, it offers one of the most diverse collections: modern educational works, textbooks published in Paris in the 19th century, bibliophile editions, art and travel albums, botanical and zoological albums, encyclopedias, periodicals, and major works of French literature. Collection of over 2,000 titles from the Doina and Baruțu T. Arghezi library.

Heritage Libraries

Exhibition featuring personal documents and manuscripts of the poet, prose writer, journalist, and typographer Tudor Arghezi, donated to the University by the Baruțu and Doina Arghezi family.

Collection of rare books from the 18th, 19th, and early 20th centuries, with exceptional bibliophile elements: bindings, dedications, ex libris, imagery, donations from prominent figures of Romanian culture.

Complete Romanian editions of the works of writer Ioan Slavici, comprehensive documentary collection of literary history and criticism, monographs and studies ~ 4,000 titles.

The entire collection can be consulted exclusively in its own reading rooms.
